More ebook goodness from meBooks

September 11th, 2011

Here at meBooks we’re pleased to bring you new ebook titles from a variety of New Zealand authors for your enjoyment, including Really Rotten Rat, our first children’s book which is also our first read-aloud eBook for Apple iPad. Really Rotten Rat makes use of certain features of the iBooks application on the Apple iPad to allow the reader to have the book read to them in the author’s voice, with words being highlighted in time with the narration. We’re interested to see what younger readers make of this experiment, and hope to add other similar titles in future.

Another special title has to be Jungle Rock Blues, Nigel Cox’s contemporary classic (aka Tarzan Presley), a funny and thoughtful fusing of two mythic lives, complete with giant weta. As Bill Manhire notes, “Jungle Rock Blues is a wild, slow-motion astonishment”.

We’ve also got new work from established New Zealand writers such as Ian Wedde (with his novel The Catastrophe) and Kate Camp (with her collection of poems, The Mirror Of Simple Annihilated Souls), as well as works from newer wrtiers such as Christine Leov Lealand with her steamy romance, Avocado.

Another title sure to be of interest to those readers with a yen for contemporary New Zealand writing is Slightly Peculiar Love Stories, a wonderful collection of 21 love stories from a range of New Zealand writers, covering love from all angles including the whimsical through to the unorthodox.

Our new non-fiction releases include The Big Kahuna: Turning Tax & Welfare In New Zealand On Its Head, Gareth Morgan’s treatise on the reform of the tax system and the redistribution of wealth, and Roger Robinson’s ebook version of his classic Heroes & Sparrows: A Celebration Of Running. One title that deserves special mention is Michael Fowler’s From Disaster To Recovery: The Hastings CBD 1931-35, a painstakingly researched account of aftermath of the Napier earthquake, which is sure to be popular with those readers keen on New Zealand history.

As per usual, all of these titles are available in both epub and Amazon Kindle format, meaning that you’ll be able to find a format to suit most modern ebook reading devices.

With most of these ebooks available at a substantial discount to the price of the equivalent print book, there’s no excuse not to stock up. Happy reading!
